Cologne, 11 July 2024: The European Science Park Group (ESPG), a property company specialising in science parks, has achieved significant progress in the sustainable development of its science park portfolio. The company has installed photovoltaic systems on the roofs of more than 40 per cent of the portfolio to date. The “green” science parks generate a combined nominal output of around 1.2 megawatts and prevent around 760 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum by generating 1,163 MWh of solar power. Markus Drews, CEO of ESPG AG: “As specialists in science parks, we want to contribute to a future-oriented and sustainable transformation promoting scientific research, technological progress and innovation. Consequently, ESG criteria are part of the entire life cycle of our properties and characterise our daily activities. Sustainable power supply is a key factor here. We strive to generate as much environmentally friendly electricity as possible exactly where it is needed.” The successful transition of the portfolio to "green" electricity is an important milestone for ESPG. The installation of further solar plants is planned. In addition to expanding the range of e-mobility options, various measures are planned to increase the energy efficiency of the properties and further optimise the energy mix. ESPG is pursuing the goal of continuously reducing the ecological footprint of its property portfolio and establishing a virtually climate-neutral portfolio in the long term.
