Altech Advanced Materials AG: of 20 percent Through technical optimization, the annual production capacity could be increased from previously 100 MWh for CERENERGY plant in Schwarze Pumpe to 120MWh. The realized technical design optimization enables the higher production capacity without additional investment costs The new performance data will be considered in pending feasibility study Prototype construction of the 60KWh BatteryPack is progressing well and on schedule Heidelberg (02.11.2023): Altech Advanced Materials AG (FRA: AMA1) will significantly expand its production capacity at the CERENERGY® solid-state sodium chloride battery production facility in Schwarze Pumpe, Saxony, Germany, to at least 120 MWh annually. Previously, the company had planned for an annual output of 100 MWh. As a result of a technical design optimization in cooperation with the joint venture partner Fraunhofer IKTS and the subcontractors involved and further tests, the plant output has now been increased by 20 percent without the need for additional investments. Altech is currently preparing a comprehensive feasibility study for the realization of the production plant. The newly obtained results as well as all parameters such as costs, operating consumption, etc. will be completely and carefully analyzed in this study. Altech expects to publish the feasibility study in the coming months. Uwe Ahrens, Board Member of Altech Advanced Materials AG: "We are making good progress in our production plant for CERENERGY®. Through optimized design, we have succeeded in significantly expanding production capacity without incurring additional investment costs for Altech. We are very pleased to realize a production increase of 20 percent already in the current planning phase. This shows once again that, together with our partners such as the Fraunhofer Institute IKTS, we are on the right track to develop and implement a performance-optimized production plant for our novel CERENERGY® sodium chloride solid-state battery." CERENERGY® is a new type of solid-state sodium chloride battery for stationary operation that combines unique properties and thus represents an efficient and resource-saving alternative to currently used lithium-ion batteries. The battery, which consists of common salt, nickel and ceramics, does not require critical materials such as graphite, lithium and cobalt, which fluctuate greatly in price. All materials can be sourced from Europe, minimizing dependencies in the supply chain. The battery has a service life of over 15 years. It is non-flammable and can therefore be used in existing buildings as well as in critical infrastructure such as gas stations (e-mobility) or hospitals (emergency power supply). It can be operated outdoors under all climatic conditions without separate cooling or heating and is completely recyclable. Under full cost consideration and the daily charging cycles, it promises a cost advantage of approx. 50 percent compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries in stationary operation. An initial production plant is currently being planned in Schwarze Pumpe, Saxony. Corresponding building applications have been submitted, land acquired, and the production design drawn up. In scaling up the battery technology, the technical risks are limited as the battery chemistry is based on a proven technology and Fraunhofer has been successfully testing and operating various prototypes for more than 8 years. Currently, Altech is producing the industrial prototype of the 60kWh BatteryPack together with Fraunhofer.
